The Technical Presentation
“Top AlwaysOn Issues” by Shon Hauck
In this session we will discuss top issues observed in the AlwaysOn support team at Microsoft and how to prevent those.

AlwaysOn, the SQL Server 2012 & 2014 premier high availability solution, provides high availability and reliability by taking advantage of new and proven technology. Built on two pillars – SQL Server failover clustered instance (FCI) and SQL Server availability groups (AGs) – AlwaysOn is versatile and can be configured a variety of ways to meet your enterprise requirements for high availability and data redundancy, including high availability outside the primary data center by using multi-site Windows clustering.
Shon Hauck is a senior Escalation Engineer on the SQL Server AlwaysOn / High Availability support team. Since joining the team in 2006, he’s helped create clustering training for SQL Server 2005, 2008, 2008 R2, and 2012 and worked on technologies such as SQL CE and SQL Smart Setup. During SQL Server 2008 and 2012 setup and failover clustering development, Shon assisted with supportability and architectural changes.
Shon’s knowledge of core OS, clustering, and SQL Server extends to advanced troubleshooting, including Advanced User Mode and Kernel Mode debugging, networking, and performance analysis. He joined Microsoft in 1998 supporting Windows NT 3.51 and NT 4. In 1999, he moved to the Windows Cluster / Datacenter escalation team, supporting a variety of high availability technologies.
